Legit problems connecting Wii to internet...?

I used to be able to connect my Wii through my home wireless router all the time to the internet. I went back to college (left the Wii home, untouched), and came back yesterday, only to have very odd trouble connecting to the internet again. The router went untouched while I was gone, so did the Wii. I did not change any connection settings, and the router is unsecured so I don't need to enter an address or anything. When the Wii scans for an access point, it always finds it but it simply has trouble connecting. I tried connecting about 10 times probably and it connected a couple times (automatically started updating) and after a couple minutes updating the connection failed. What should I do to fix this problem? I am good with computers so please offer your best advice.
