What is algorithm? i need to understand ir!?

im doing a project about a famous mathematician named al-Khawarizimi who invented algorithm.The only problem, is that i dont even know what is the thing named " algorithm". Ive read alot of articles about algorithm and i still dont understand it.Please answer that question so i can understand easily.
